Are there any active Elders/MS or higher out there who can advise if one of the requirements for appointment is that the person's FS time is equal to or greater than either the Congregation's average or the National Average? This used to be the case, but may have been relaxed. Also is the Branch still approving appointments? I heard that the Branch is out of it now. It is up to the BOE with the CO's sign-off. Any truth to that?

Class action lawsuit - how does one get the ball rolling?
by sir82 inunless you've been living under a rock you know that a court in california has found the wts guilty of negligence in covering over child abuse, and the wts has ben ordered to pay $20 million + to the victim.. also, unless you've been living under a rock, you know that there are thousands, probably 10's of thousands, of similar victims of wts coverups regarding sexual abuse still out there.. now that the precedent has been set - now that the wts was not able to settle out of court, and has been found guilty - now that this is international news, and literally millions of people are aware of it - it seems that now may be the time to strike even more deeply.. i am not an attorney, but there are a few who post on the board, and others who have a deeper understanding of legal matters.. what would it take to begin a class action lawsuit against the wts?
how exactly does the process start?
does it matter which state it starts in?

One of the basic issues is that the victims, or in this case, Plaintiffs live in many different states, perhaps all 50 states. This may mean that the litigation be filed in Federal Court, not State Court. On what basis would a Federal Court hear the case? Is molestation a Federal crime? I think the way to determine the feasibility of this type of an action is: 1) Find a Law Firm that would take the case on a contingency basis. That means they get no money unless they win or there is a settlement. If they do win or settle, they get 30-40% of the money. This is a good incentive for a Lawyer. 2) Locate people that would wish to be part of the litigation. This could be done via a website, at least the initial contact. let the Lawyers take it from there.

1975, the flip on the Generation, and now almost 1914+100 and nothing-just to mention a few. The legacy of Freddy Franz and his writtings will take 50 + years to slowly get rid of. The line out of vegas is betting that the 1914 date will be used less and less until 15-20 years from now, they will be sayin: "what about 1914?"

The WTS will tell you that your years of association show that regardless of your complaint, you were a willing member subject to their ecclesiastical rules as a self-governing religion. If you want out, just write a letter withdrawing membership (disassociating) and you are out, with all the consequences. If you have the time, money and inclination, I would hire a lawyer that specializes in religious affairs (they are around). Start a law suit that says you want your membership/baptism annulled. I would state how the doctrine of the religion has changed since you joined and that this constitutes a material change to the agreement of membership, your faith and inner conscience no longer agrees with the changed doctrine, etc. Your Lawyer may be able to negotiate a settlement where they just let you go with out any announcements in lieu of a protratcted litigation (and the expense associated). Its all about the money, honey.

Play it cool and don't get upset or confrontational. If you haven't been warned, they probably will just talk to you about some deficiency and ask you to correct. If that is the case, consider moving to another Congregation. The present Congregation will send your cards and a letter where they won't recommend you, and then will announce that you have been deleted because you moved. It is a slam dunk. Then you can do as you wish.
you can do what you wish

I know one of them. He and his wife are two of the nicest people that I have ever met, or spent time with. Only encouraging. I don't have one bad thing to say about him.

No doubt you are relating a true story, but the old-timers sensed your attitude and were just pulling your chain. The older guy didn't survive WWII and the younger guy Vietnam (probably) by not haveing any street smarts and being able to read people instantly.

How Did/Has the WTBTS Affected Your Social Skills?
by ABibleStudent ingood or bad?
how did/has the wtbts affected your social skills, social development, and/or how you interact with other people?
i have many questions about different social skills that i will ask either after other people post to this thread or to keep this thread active.

I am anti social, shy, distrusting of other people, never had any friendships because I was prohibited from makng friends at school or in my neighborhood, and the kids in the KH were not interested in me or any other witness kids. The girls all purused worldly boys and the boys all pursued worldly girls. By the time I got to young adulthood, I was so far behind socially, I couldn't catch up. Thats still the case. Now at 50+ years old, I have no friends, no real social skills, and no interests because I grew up not being allowed to do anything. Sound like a good way to live?

Are the Watchtower HQ washing their hands of congregations?
by uk_ex_jw init seems more and more from what i read that if there is problems in congregations (i.e.
paedophilia) the wtbts are washing their hands of any wrongdoing and leaving the congregation and its elder's to carry the can.. is that how it is now?.

Does anybody have any documents (letters to the BOE, etc) that outlines the new approval process and the phasing out of the travelling COs and the direct NY link?
